Wedding Day Jumpsuits, Rompers and Pants

The Bride Wore Pants? Wedding Day Jumpsuits, Rompers and Pants

You know how much we love romantic and colorful wedding dresses. Romantic, feminine, dramatic and pretty, they have the power to make you look like a princess, feel like a goddess, and set the tone for your entire wedding. But, let’s be honest. They aren’t for everyone and we are here to tell you that it’s ok NOT to say yes to the dress. After all, you should never make assumptions about who wears the pants…

More and more women are saying no to the dreamy walk down the aisle in a flowing gown of lace and silk and chiffon. Instead they choose to take their spotlight stroll in wedding pants. For these brides…young, older, straight and gay…they are stripping away the tulle and tiaras allowing them to explore more honest modes of self expression. After all, there are a lot of women who feel much more comfortable, at home and powerful in pants.

So, whether you’re a tomboy bride looking for something more you, a stylish dame planning to forge your own path down the aisle, or a same sex bride wanting to look a little different from your other half on your big day, there are lots of wedding dress alternatives that will let you be more true to yourself, while still feeling glamorous, gorgeous, and special. Enter jump suits, pant suits, and even super cute play suits as the new wedding wardrobe.

Pant Suits

Even if your mother is dress-obsessed and horrified that you will miss out on your “Big White Dress Moment,” you can still be one kick-ass bride wearing trousers to your wedding. We promise that despite what mom may thing, this doesn’t mean you’ll look butch or blocky. With all the fabulous options out there, this could mean a chic suit, a sexy two-piece, or a dramatic style statement all of your own.

Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits are so freaking cool! Not only are they total statement pieces, but they can create a silhouette that’s just as romantic, seductive, dramatic and feminine as a traditional wedding dress. Jumpsuits are perfect for chic city weddings and elopements. We also love them when featured as unique bridesmaid attire. You can play around with pant widths, necklines and textures, just like a dress, or you can keep it simple and amp up the accessories with some really bold statement pieces, unusual corsages or live wearable art.

Play Suits

Admittedly, we didn’t originally think rompers were appropriate wedding day attire. However, then we got a look at some of these little beauties, and we have to say, we’re converted. They are cute, flirty, playful, and pretty. They make the perfect attire for tearing it up on the dance floor, as well as pretty daytime outfits for backyard nuptials, elopements, beach weddings, or casual city affairs. So, if you’re looking for something low-key, stylish and fun, playsuits might be the perfect wedding dress alternative for you.

A smattering of high-profile brides have also exchanged bridal trains for bridal trousers. Amal Clooney wore a stunning Stella McCartney white two-piece custom suit for her civil wedding ceremony to George Clooney. (She did opt for a gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gown for the more elaborate wedding ceremony the same weekend, however.) Olivia Palermo, a socialite, wed the model Johannes Huebl in white Carolina Herrera shorts with a tulle skirt overlay. And Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s sister, wed in an adorable Stéphane Rolland jumpsuit.

So, what do you think? Would you consider dropping the dress?
