A guide to what you want for your detail shots.

When it comes to wedding photography, detail shots can be the small touches that complete a beautiful story. There are certain items that couples should set aside for their photographer to capture so that all of the special memories from the big day can be remembered for years to come.

Rings

Set aside both of your rings and any other jewelry you plan on wearing for your photography session. Have them polished and ready for you and your photographer to capture the perfect shot.

Invitations

Don’t forget about your wedding invitations! Many couples choose to include a photo of their invitation in their wedding album or scrapbook. Make sure you have one set aside and in good condition for the photographer.

Menu cards

Keep one or two menu cards handy to photograph for your wedding album. These will this give guests an idea of what they can expect from the meal. It also provides a great opportunity for creative shots with interesting textures like wood, fabric, or paper.

Bouquet

You’ll definitely need a bouquet set aside as well! Make sure it has been freshly prepared and looks its best before you start shooting.

Accessories

Accessories like purses, scarves, hats, and even sunglasses add flair to your photos. If you choose to, incorporate them into your shoot. Have several sets ready beforehand so that your photographer has a variety of options to work with.

Vow books

Do you plan on exchanging personalized vows during the ceremony? Make sure you set aside each book for your photographer to take some detail shots of them as well!

Love letters

If you wrote love letters back-and-forth prior to getting married, these are definitely something that should be included! They are such meaningful mementos that will bring back fond memories when looking back at the photos years later.
