Here is the easiest mistake NOT to make with Save the Date cards.

The easiest mistake NOT to make with Save the Dates.

Save the Date cards go out before the wedding invitation. If you’re not sure that you actually want someone at your wedding or you’re not sure if you have them within your budget then sending it to them is a mistake. It’s not rocket science, but so many people get this wrong.

Saving the Date

More and more couples send a Save the Date before they actually send a wedding invitation. You’re not sure that you actually want someone at your wedding. Or you’re not sure if your budget can allow for the number of guests that you hope to be at your wedding. Be really mindful in who you say send Save the Dates to. Doesn’t have to be everyone.

Breaking Up the Guest List

If you’re breaking up your wedding guest list into A, B and even C categories, which many many couples do, make sure that you’re only sending Save the Dates to to the A and maybe some of the B groups. Only the people that you know you absolutely want to have at your wedding. You cannot recall sending a Save the Date. So once you send the Save the Date the implication to that guest is that they will be receiving an invitation as well.

I Don’t Want To Be Rude…

And listen, if you’re worried about this coming off as rude, not sending someone a Save the Date when you actually send them an invitation two months before your wedding, I get it. But anyone that’s planned a wedding themselves or been in the process of planning a wedding for their family and friends understands how challenging a guest list can be. And if you get an invitation two months before a wedding and you feel offended by the fact that you weren’t on the A list, well, that’s more of a you problem than a them problem.

Oh! And if your Save the Dates are postcards, make sure to get postcard stamps instead of Forever Stamps. Save yourself some money!
