Why Are My Vendors Ghosting Me?

Why Are My Vendors Ghosting Me?

We recently received an interesting compliment from a potential client thanking us for replying to their interest in working with us. When we spoke with them further we realized that the issue of vendors ghosting potential clients was something that needed to be addressed.

What happens when a couple is reaching out to vendors for their wedding and they don’t hear back?Truthfully, there could be three legitimate reasons why this happens.

Reason 1

You might be contacting a vendor outside of their preferred method of communication. Meaning, for example, a vendor prefers clients or potential clients to reach out through their contact form on their website only. They don’t accept DM inquiries, text inquiries or anything else than their inquiry form.

You’re likely thinking, HOLD THE PHONE! Aren’t all inquiries good inquiries? Not so much. Most of the time if you’re sending a DM you’re probably asking a question like “Hey, are you available on my date?” A wedding vendor is going to ask themselves, “I don’t know your name. What is your partner’s name. I don’t know your venue. What is your date. I don’t know SOLID information in order to be able to help you.” You have to give them the information they need in order fro them to be able to assist. Plus, information can just get lost. So, as a majority, I would say that most wedding vendors would like you to use their contact form located on their website to communicate with them.

Reason 2

It’s busy season. Patience is a virtue.

I know that this is hard to hear. And for this particular person who was reaching out to us and thanking us for our super quick reply, they said that they had reached out to other vendors multiple times. I recommend to just have patience. If it’s April through June. It’s busy season. If it’s September through November. It’s busy season.

Reason 3

And this is the scary truth. There is no barrier to entry into the wedding industry. There is no certificate or degree that you can get that can truly validate your skill set. It is not like a lawyer who must pass a bar exam or a doctor who has to complete board certifications in order to practice. Truly anyone can put up a very nice website and social media presence and start working in the wedding industry. That means you need to look for reviews on legitimate sites and understand as well that there is a really big difference in experience across the board. Whether someone who has been in business 10 plus years or they just started. That means they run their business in different ways.

Here is a truth bomb. You know what? It sounds like it’s just not the right fit. If you’ve reached out multiple times in that vendor’s preferred method of communication and they those vendors are still ghosting you, take it as a sign from above. Or from the universe. Or from whatever you may believe in that they aren’t right for you. And you aren’t right for them. Period.

There are lots of great other vendors our there that will be a great fit for you and communicate well. So, all this is to say, it is a two way street. Vendors are expecting a lot from their potential clients and potential clients are expecting a lot from their vendors. Both parties have to come to the table willingly to communicate. So regardless of all that, remember to be kind. Be patient. Communicate. Know that everybody has got a lot going on in their own lives. Have a bar of chocolate and know it’s all going to be okay.
